But a Fannibal isn't simply "a fan". Fannibal is a lifestyle (and you will know it, if you become one).
What is Hannibal about?
Hannibal is a TV series loosely based (this means that it is not quite the same, indeed, much different) from the series of books by Thomas Harris about the serial killer (cannibalistic and charismatic) Hannibal Lecter. And, no, it's not a cooking show, but there is the same a lot of food in it!
If you aren't a fannibal... well, you should be!
Why?
For a lot of reasons!
1. Hannibal is fantastic:
Doctor Lecter is charming, polite, intelligent and cannibal (which is interesting because... you know, it's an unusual "bad guy"). If you are a fan of the thriller, the psychological horror and the great personalities, well, you will love Hannibal!
Plus, the version played by Mads Mikkelsen in NBC Hannibal is also quite handsome...
2. We have books, movies and tv series!
Yeah. If you like to read, we have stories, if you love watching tv we have movies and tv series. We have things for... erm... all the tastes.
NBC Hannibal is an American psychological thriller–horror television series developed by Bryan Fuller for NBC. The series is based on characters and elements appearing in the novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris and focuses on the budding relationship between FBI special investigator Will Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a forensic psychiatrist destined to become Graham's most cunning enemy.
Red Dragon is a novel by Thomas Harris, first published in 1981. It introduced the character Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. The novel was adapted as a film, Manhunter, in 1986 which featured Brian Cox as Lecter. Directed by Michael Mann, the film was critically well received but fared poorly at the box office. It has since developed a cult following.
After Harris wrote a sequel to the novel, The Silence of the Lambs, in 1988 (itself turned into a highly successful film in 1991), Red Dragon found a new readership. A second sequel, Hannibal, was published in 1999 and adapted into a film in 2001. Both film sequels featured Anthony Hopkins in the role of Hannibal Lecter, for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor in 1991. Due to the success of the second and third films, Red Dragon was remade as a film directed by Brett Ratner in 2002, this time bearing the title of the original novel and with Hopkins playing Lecter.

3. The fandom
The fandom only is the main reason for what if would be right to become a fannibal. I swear: we are the most collaborative, polite, smart people on the net. Since I have been in this fandom ... I felt at home. It is a wonderful feeling: fannibal people are open-minded, with art that flows in the veins, and especially with a dark sense of humor, absolutely hilarious, that will make you think about how laughter can arise even from the darkest of places in the world.
We create events, we re-watch together and comment on all the seasons, we do not leave anyone behind (as long as they let us know that they are like us) and we even have a welcoming committee for new fans who sign up on Tumblr!
But wherever you enroll, at any site, if you are a fannibal and there are others like you, know that we will find you and make you feel loved!
And we produce a lot of material, which is great if you like to explore never-written-by-the-author parts of the series. Headcanons, fanfictions, fanarts... oh, and talking of fanarts...
4. The Art
"Artistic" is one of the best words to describe the series. Hannibal Lecter himself draws (and very well), so we, that are his fans, draw in a way that... that... that you've never seen in another fandom.
A lot of visual metaphors, blood, darkness, and flowers flowers flowers. Elaborate drawings are preferred, but we have artists of all kind of styles, even manga or super-cute-chibies and simple comics (full of cannibal puns). Probably we are the only fandom that draws our characters more undressed than dressed (for the love of anatomy, of course).
Among other things, the artists in the fandom are always ready to collaborate, to talk, open to critique and not at all snobby though some of they draw better than Michelangelo.
And we are really productive, thought we are one of the smallest fandoms!

6. The love stories
Did you ever heard about Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lecter? Probably yes, but if you haven't, you have to know this: it's twisted, it's strong, it's strange and it's dark and it's probably one of the most famous love stories of the story of the cinema.
And why we don't talk about the Hannigram? Hannigram it's the fusion of the words "Hannibal" and "Graham" and it's used to indicate about the pairing composed by the most awesome male friendship (or more?) that I've ever seen: Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham. You will not find so much material about the Hannigram in the books, but sure you will enjoy it greatly on the TV series "NBC Hannibal".
7. The dogs
Yeah. You've read right: dogs. A lot of dogs. The Hannibal's writer room is full of puppies, the tv series is full of puppies, even the book Red Dragon is full of puppies. If you love dogs, you will love the co-protagonist of the tv series, Will Graham, that collect adorable strays, and the most famous dog of the fandom, Winston.
Bryan Fuller. The supreme showrunner, the one who exactly knows what the fans want and gives what they want to them.
Also, he encourages us to produce drawings and fanfictions (while the other showrunners usually ignore or even discourage this kind of practice) and enjoy fannibals' headcanon, often using them also in the series.
Sometimes he remembers the birthday of the fans and gives them greetings.
Virtually hugs the fannibals that feels bad on twitter, physically hugs the fannibals who encounters in real world, retwitt the fanarts that he likes and is totally exilarating.
He's also stylish, loves to dress in a good way, it's an handsome giant and a total genius. And he can do everything. It's also an animal lover, he have a lot of dogs (all adopted! That's a good person...) and sometimes he substain charity projects.
He's a whovian (a fan of Doctor Who) and a fan of Star Trek (what is the name of the fans of Star Trek?) and it's writing a tv series with Neil Gaiman.
Isn't enough to watch everyone of his series and especially NBC Hannibal?
We have a fanzine (a fan-magazine), called "FANNIBALS" and created (for free) by the fans.

10.The food
The food is always a good reason to do anything, so even to watch NBC Hannibal, a series where the food is a lot, it is beautiful and hides itself complex symbolism. And then will make you hungry (Although the basis of most of the dishes is ... well, human meat.).
Cooking is art! And often you will find in the series scenes of kitchen that will make you almost smell the delicious, complicated dishes that the Doctor Lecter, armed with a white apron, knives, and sometimes of oven mitts, is cooking with love.
And if you should wish to replicate those recipes (no human meat, of course)? Well, for what is "Feeding Hannibal" the blog where Janice Poon (the official food stylist) explains step by step every recipe you see in the series, and in addition there are succulent curiosity!

Many of you will want to watch the series just for this: blood and psychological horror.

Ok. Every fandom have its AUs (that means "alternative universes"). But Fannibals are really the most creative about them!
